Samsung Electronics develops next-gen battery tech

Samsung Electronics has succeeded in developing a so-called next generation solid state battery technology possessing both improved durability and stability, according to Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology on Mar. 10.

In a joint effort with Samsung R&D Institute Japan, it said it has developed technology for producing batteries that are rechargeable up to 1000 times and allow EVs to drive up to 800km per charge.

Solid state batteries typically use li-metal for its negative pole and are considered more stable than lithium-ion batteries. However, these batteries have been battling Dendrite, which erode overall durability and safety.

Samsung said it solved this problem with the new battery tech that was featured in Nature Energy, a globally renowned scientific journal.
