In April 2020, SK Group’s chemical unit SKC officially relaunched its copper foil business by changing the name from KCFT to SK Nexilis at a recent board of director’s meeting and shareholders’ meeting.

SKC had acquired KCFT, the world’s largest producer of copper foil, in January 2020 following a related announcement in June 2019. SKC now holds a 100% stake in SK Nexilis.

"We hope to open a new chapter of success for SK Nexilis," said SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won in a congratulatory message.

As of October 2019, SK Nexilis had mass produced the world’s thinnest 4㎛ copper foil at a record-breaking length of 30km. To continue spurring progress, SK Nexilis completed adding a fourth plant in Jeongup of North Jeolla Province early this year.

This means the company’s production capacity will rise to 34,000 tons this year from 24,000 tons in 2019 to further rise to 43,000 tons in 2021. SK Group is also considering global expansion in areas such as North America, Europe and Asia for its newest affiliate where the group has clients.
