SK Hynix holds a groundbreaking ceremony for M16 semiconductor plant

Completed in October 2020 at the site of 53,000㎡, applying EUV

SK Hynix, on 19th, held a groundbreaking ceremony at its headquarters in Icheon city, Gyeonggi-do, for its new semiconductor factory(M16) with 200 attendees including Tae-won Choi, Chairman of SK Group, Jae-won Choi, Vice Chairman of SK Group, Sung-wook Park, former SK Hynix CEO and Chairman of SK group ICT, and Seok-hee Lee, CEO of SK Hynix.

The M16, which is built on the 53,000㎡ (16,000 pyong) site of the Icheon head office, is equipped with an exclusive space for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) exposure equipment. The size of production products and the size of the semiconductor market will be determined based on the conditions and technology. The more EUV is used, the stronger a candidate the 10-nanometer low-end DRAM bemomes. The completion of the construction will be done in October 2020.

SK Tae-won Choi, Chairman of SK, said, "SK Hynix has overcome difficult times and has succeeded in keeping up with hopes despite frustration." He said, "We should put our sweat and effort into our new growth legend not only based on cutting-edge technology."

SK Hynix CEO Lee said, "If the M14 and M15 were the achievements of the long-awaited desire for SK Hynix, which has not had a new plant for more than 10 years, the M16 is the starting line is an announcement of another leap forward. We will create a new future based on innovation and technology that fit the world’s first and high-tech infrastructure."
