Galaxy S20 shipment falls steeply in Q1: Omdia 

Apple’s iPhone 11 saw the highest shipment among smartphones worldwide in the first quarter, according to market research firm Omdia.

Cupertino moved 19.5 million units in the quarter, the firm said. It is considerably higher 13.6 million units marked by iPhone XR in the first quarter of 2019.

Samsung, meanwhile, moved only 3.5 million units of Galaxy S20 Plus in the quarter, a steep fall from the 5.2 million units it marked for the Galaxy S10 a year ago, according to data from Omdia.

However, the South Korean tech behemoth moved 6.8 million units of the Galaxy A51 in the first quarter, becoming the second best selling smartphone of the quarter.

This was followed by Xiaomi’s Redmi Note8’s 6.6 million units and Redmi Note8 Pro’s 6.1 million units, a huge increase for the company. The Chinese tech giant had only one model, Redmi 6A, make it to top 10 with 5.8 million units the previous year.

Meanwhile, Samsung moved the most 5G smartphone. Its Galaxy S20 Plus 5G marked 3.5 million units. Huawei saw its smartphones place second and third __ Mate 30 shipped 2.9 million and Mate 30 5G 2.7 million.

Omdia said Chinese vendors were pushing 5G smartphones and they will soon control the ranking charts.

Another research firm Counterpoint has previously said a total of 294.9 million smartphone were shipped in the first quarter, a 13% from a year ago. Samsung ranked first with 20% market share, followed by Huawei’s 17% and Apple’s 14%.
