KT, Cognex launch machine vision for 5G smart factory 

AI-based cameras will monitor factory work

KT and Cognex has launched their machine vision solution for use in smart factories, the companies said.

The South Korean telco and US-based image recognition company said 5G Smart Factory Vision will offer a rule-based machine vision and a deep learning-based machine vision.

The solutions will collect data from cameras installed in factories. They will look for defects, assort products and perform measurements, previously done by humans. It will use 5G networks. Cloud and a mobile alert service will also be offered.

It will be applicable for factories that produce automobiles, semiconductors, food products, medicine and display, the companies said.

Meanwhile, Cognex acquired South Korean artificial intelligence (AI) start-up SuaLab for US$195 million.

KT was an investor to Sua, having put in 3 billion won into the firm back in 2017.
