HFR will wrap up the field testing by next month for the fronthaul network equipment that it is planning to supply to US telco Verizon, the company said Friday.

The South Korean telecom equipment maker was chosen as a supplier for the US carrier back in February. The fronthaul equipment will be supplied to Verizon via Fujitsu Network Communications.

A HFR spokesperson said testing was going smoothly and will wrap up next month. It was delayed for around a month due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they said. Testing is done in collaboration with Verizon at Rhode Island.

Contract will be signed around a month after testing is complete, they added. There will be separate contracts for each US states. Testing at more states are expected to follow after those done right now at Rhode Island is wrapped up.

HFR will be supplying its 5G packet fronthaul equipment with eCPRI support to the US carrier.

The South Korean company previously supplies its wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) for use in Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

Verizon is rolling out mmWave networks. In March, it adjusted its CAPEX this year from the previous US$17.5 billion to US$18.5 billion.
