LG Electronics and LG Display have won the annual innovation award given by General Motors (GM) for its suppliers, the companies said on Tuesday.
GM has been giving the awards since 2016 to its suppliers that contributed in providing improved customer experience in its cars.
The two LG affiliates was among five companies that won the 2019 Innovation Awards. The South Korean companies won the award for the digital cockpit they provided for the 2021-model Cadillac Escalade.
The system was based on plastic OLED display panels made by LG Display. Two OLED panels are attached together for a 38-inch screen that is used as a dashboard and for infotainment purposes. LG Electronics provided the human machine interface for the system.
LG Electronics began supplying its goods to GM in 2015, starting with the Chevy Bolt EV, in which it provided 11 components.
LG Electronics, together with battery making affiliate LG Chem, won the Overdrive Award from the US car giant back in 2016.
