Hanmi Semiconductor expects its electro magnetic interference (EMI) shield equipment to contribute 120 billion won in sales this year, the company said Wednesday.
The company said it posted 20.1 billion won in operating profits, a rise of 32% from a year prior, in the second quarter thanks to strong sales of EMI shield equipment used to produce 5G modem chips. Sales for the quarter was 61.9 billion won, an increase of 152% year-over-year.
EMI shield is used deposit metal on chips to prevent its noise from interfering with other devices.
Apple, Qualcomm and Broadcom all applied the technology to their smartphone goods since 2016.
Rise of remote work and online businesses due to COVID-19 will likely see its application expand to smartwatches and wireless earphones.
Hanmi CEO and vice chairman Kwak Dong-shin said the company expects record performances this year that will exceed its previous record sales of 217.1 billion won in 2018.
