LG Chem had 96 out of the 499 patents related to organic light emitting diode (OLED) emission materials that were made public in August, according to UBI Research.
Patents are usually shown in public registers a year and a half after they are filed.
Samsung Display had the second most patents in August at 47. US’s UDC had 32 patents and Merk of Germany had 27 patents in the month.
By country, South Korea had 252 patents out of the total. China has 95 and Japan 62.
296 patents were related to emission layer, or EML. There were 115 patents related to blue color, UBI Research said.
LG Chem issued the most number of patents related to OLED emission materials between 2017 and 2019, the research firm also said.
The company supplies electron-transport layer (ETL) materials to Samsung Display. LG Chem also supplies EML for LG Display’s OLED for mobile and TVs.
UBI Research and OLED emission material maker Lordin plan to publish their collaborative patent report every month.
