SK Telecom said on Thursday that it has launched a 5G edge cloud service with Amazon Web Services.
It has launched its first AWS Wavelength Zone in Daejeon. This will be expanded to Seoul and other areas next year.
SK Telecom said apps accessing the cloud will bypass internet and regional web sites and be connected directly to AWS Wavelength Zone in the telco’s data center.
This will reduce network delay and fully bring out 5G network’s benefits.
The telco said it hoped the launch will foster innovation in game, media, distribution and manufacturing.
