Qualcomm on Sunday unveiled its new application processor aimed at budget 5G smartphones.
The Snapdragon 480 is its first AP to have a 5G modem. It comes with Snapdragon X51 5G modem that supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrum. It also supports both TDD and FDD connectivity.
The CPU has eight cores. It clocks 2GHz and comes with two Kryo 460 cores based on Cortex-A76. The remaining six cores clocks 1.8GHz and are based on Cortex-A55. The GPU is Adreno 619.
Qualcomm said Snapdragon 480 boasts double the performance in CPU and GPU to is predecessors.
AI processing has improved 70%, the US chip giant said.
The chip comes with the first triple ISP in the 4-series with Qualcomm Spectra 345, designed for multi-camera support and power savings for more photos and videos per charge, the company said.
It supports 120fps Full HD+, 64MP camera sensors, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and Qualcomm aptX Audio.
Snapdragon 480 is made with Samsung’s 8nm process. It will be used in Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Motorola and Nokia’s budget 5G smartphones launching in the first half of 2021.
