From increased demand for PC and home appliances
Silicon wafer shipment reached 12.47 billion meter-square in 2020, an increase of 5% from 2019, SEMI said on Wednesday.
The increase was higher than the organization’s initial forecast of 2.4%.
Silicon wafer sales meanwhile hit US$11.17 billion, level to that of 2019.
Demand for 300mm wafer were strong in the second half of 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, SEMI said, which led to the increase.
Silicon wafer shipment is expected to continue to rise going forward. SEMI had said in 2020 it expects shipment to reach record numbers in 2022.
SEMI’s took into account virgin test wafers, polished wafers and epitaxial wafers for its findings. It didn’t include non-polished wafers and recycled wafers.
