LG Electronics said on Tuesday that it has won a patent infringement lawsuit against TCL in Germany.
The Mannheim Regional Court ruled in favor of LG on March 2, finding that TCL has infringed the South Korea company’s standard essential patent EP 2 627 146 B1 related to LTE technology.
LG filed three lawsuits against its Chinese rival in Germany back in November 2019.
The two remaining lawsuits will each proceed this month and in May.
LG said it will take action to block TCL from selling phones in Germany, in light of its recent win.
According to TechIPM, LG was the largest holder of standard essential patents in LTE and LTE-A in the world from 2012 to 2016. Germany research firm Iplytics said LG had around 3,700 patent families in 5G standard essential patents as of last month. It ranks third worldwide.
