LG Electronics said on Thursday that it would be proving up to three years of Android OS update for its phones.
LG extended OS update support by a year for its phones, the company said. Premium smartphones will get three years of OS update and some budget models two years.
Velvet and Wing, which launched last year, will have OS update support up to 2023, the Korean company said.
The extended OS update will be applied to phones launched since 2019. Update schedule will be subject to change depending on Google’s OS release time line and other factors such as device compatibility, the firm added.
LG said it will continue offer after-sales customer services even after the closure of its mobile business unit, which is due on July 31, in accordance with regional laws.
In South Korea, the company will offer customer services up to four years after the manufacturing date. Consumers in the country will have access to over 120 service centers nationwide. They will also be able to use LG Pay for three years after business; closure.
Earlier on Monday, LG said it would be exiting the smartphone business. The firm plans to make phones up to May to keep its commitments to mobile carriers and distributors.
