The San Diego Supercomputer Center will use chips from Intel subsidiary Habana in its Voyager artificial intelligence (AI) system.

Voyager will be powered by 336 Habana Gaudi processors built for AI workloads. Gaudi natively has ten 100Gb Ethernet ports of RoCE v2 to minimize throughput bottlenecks.

The system will also feature 16 Habana Goya chips, which are designed for interface, and Xeon CPUs.

Voyager was started with backing from the National Science Foundation. The system will be the first use for Habana.

The system first three years of deployment will be for testing. The center plans to collaborate with various research teams in astrology, chemistry and physics during this time.
