SK Nexilis has completed the construction of its fifth copper foil factory at Jeongeup on Wednesday.
The new factory secures a total annual production capacity of 43,000 metric tonnes for the company.
The fifth factory was finished a month ahead of schedule. The company had a capacity of 34,000 metric tonnes per year prior to its completion.
When the sixth factory is also completed by next year, SK Nexilis will secure a capacity of 52,000 metric tonnes.
The sixth factory will likely be finished six months from now.
Back in February, SK Nexilis CEO Kim Young-tae said the company’s fourth quarter conference call that the company was planning to complete the fifth factory earlier than planned from high demand for copper foils and customers’ requests.
At the time, it was in talks to do the process change notification with its customer faster than planned, Kim said at the time.
Last month, SK Nexilis said it plans to secure a production capacity over 200,000 metric tonnes by 2025.
This could be increased to over 250,000 metric tonnes, the firm said. This capacity takes into account the planned 44,000 metric tonnes per year factory in Malaysia and the potential 50,000 metric tonnes per year factory in Europe.
The Malaysia plant will start construction in the first half of this year and will begin operation in 2023. For its European plant, SK Nexilis is considering Poland.
