Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on Thursday that it has developed two new multi layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
ADAS are used for autonomous driving. The kinds of ADAS include lane keeping assistant system, surround view monitor and smart cruise control.
MLCC usedd in these systems make sure electrical currents flow stably on the circuits.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ two new MLCCs are 0603 and 3216.
The 0603 (0.6mm horizontal, 0.3mm vertical) has 100nF electric capacity. The 3216 version can handle uF47 capacity. 1uF equals 1000nF.
0603 MLCC maintained the same 100nF capacities as its predecessor 1005, while being 65% smaller. The capacitors are used in electronic control unit of cars. It can remove signal noises around the unit. Samsung Electro-Mechanics said the new MLCC also can withstand bending better by over two times. It meets AEC-Q200 standard and can be used in ADAS, car body, chassis and infotainment system.
3216 MLCC doubles its electric capacity from 22uF to 47uF compared to its prior generation.
It can supply power stably to automotive semiconductors, Samsung Electro-Mechanics said. It can withstand current pressure by 1.5 times better as well.
The company said it applied nano ceramic powder and ultra-thin stacking techniques achieve the small size and large capacity.
