X-ray equipment maker Xavis said on Thursday that it has been chosen as the leading company in a national project to develop X-ray module for a robot that detects and removes explosives.
The project will get 4 billion won in total funding from South Korea’s defense ministry.
Out of the total funds, 3 billion won will be given the government to Xavis.
Xavis will develop the X-ray module and related software for the explosive ordnance disposal robot.
The company said it is aiming to complete developed by August 2024.
South Korea has relied on people with mine detectors and imported robots to detect explosives so far.
The components insides these devices have also been imported.
Xavis, it if its succeeds in developing the X-ray module, will win a five year contract from the government to supply the modules.
