
A total of 506,000 units if electric vehicles (EV) were sold in August, EV Volumes said.
The analyst firm said the total figure is likely higher than 510,000 units when including countries it couldn’t get data on, which will be double of that from a year ago.
Over half of the total, 260,000 units, were sold in China.
Around 52,000 units were sold in Germany and 44,000 units in the US. In France and Norway, 17,000 units and 14,000 units were sold, respectively.
In South Korea, 9,600 units were sold during the month, an increase of 172% year-on-year.
EV Volumes said the launch of Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5 boosted sales, while electric trucks from Hyundai and Kia were also popular.
In terms of ranking by model, Tesla Model 3 was the most popular with 282,000 units sold during the month.
Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was the second best-selling model at 245,000 units and Tesla Model Y 180,000 units.
Tesla Model 3 was popular in Europe, while Wuling Hongguang Mini EV sold well in China. Tesla Model Y was popular in the US.
EV Volumes expect 6.41 million units of electric vehicles to be sold this year.
