
Around 6.5 million units of OLED TV are expected to be shipped this year, according to analyst firm Omdia.
As of the third quarter, 4.24 million units were shipped this year, which already beats last year’s shipment of 36.5 million units.
Omdia had consistently increased its OLED TV shipment forecast this year.
In turn, MiniLED TV shipment is expected to hit around 2 million units this year.
Samsung will account for 1.5 million units and LG 300,000 units, with the remainder being taken by Chinese companies.
Samsung currently offers its Neo QLED TV brand of MiniLED TV, while LG accounts for the majority of OLED TV shipment.
Omdia had expected to 1.8 million units of MiniLED TV to be shipped back in May but has lowered its estimate.
LG launched its own MiniLED TV brand called QNED which Omdia had expected to move a million units in an earlier estimate.
Sources have told TheElec that Samsung is aiming to ship 3 million units of its Neo QLED TV brand of MiniLED TVs next year.
Prices of liquid crystal display (LCD), which are used in MiniLED TVs, had gone up during the first half of the year, which caused price difference between them and OLED panels to narrow. TV OLED panels has been far more expensive before.
But TV OLED panel prices are going down as LG Display began to mass produce them at its factory in Guangzhou.
OLED TV uses self-emitting organic materials. MiniLED uses an LCD panel had uses LED chips as its backlight.
