Worldwide semiconductor revenue hit its quarterly record during the third quarter of 2021, according to US’ Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
Revenue during the quarter was US$144.8 billion, the organization said, an increase of 27.6% year-on-year and 7.4% quarter-to-quarter.
SIA analyzed the revenue data of 98% of the chip companies in the US and two-thirds of chip companies abroad, it said.
Revenue for July, August and September were US$47.2 billion, US$47.2 billion and US$48.3 billion, respectively, increasing every month.
The increase in revenue stems from the continued demand for semiconductors and related companies’ efforts to expand their capacity to meet this demand, SIA said.
Revenue increase in the US was especially noticeable during the quarter, the association said.
In South Korea, Samsung had said in its third-quarter earnings statement that its chip business posted 26.41 trillion won in revenue during the quarter, an increase of 40% year-on-year.
SK Hynix also saw its revenue increase 45% year-on-year during the quarter to 11.8 trillion won.
