Ranix has started to develop its own 5G cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) module, TheElec has learned.
The company is aiming to wrap up the development of the module for Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) by 2022 and start production in 2023.
V2X technology requires ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency. The South Korean government initially pushed dedicated shortage range communication (DSRC) for its C-ITS projects.
But people familiar with the matter said the government is now reviewing changing the focus to C-V2X.
It plans to test both standards by 2023 and finalize which one will be the standard to start deployment in 2025.
A Ranix spokesperson said its module will be delivered later than Qualcomm’s but it is confident that it can offer better compatibility as it plans to offer its own that will integrate a modem, a security chipset and the software stack.
