To digitize technology and production processes
LG Energy Solution has formed a digital office under the direct supervision of new CEO Kwon Young-soo, TheElec has learned.
It is also remodeling the CEO office and employee lounge to better communicate between employees, sources said.
LG Energy Solution is yet to name a new chief digital officer (CDO) to oversee the new digital office. It will likely be an executive that isn’t originally from LG Group __ the battery maker hired Kang Jae-hoon, who formerly worked at Samsung Electronics, to oversee supply chain management earlier this year.
The office aims to oversee technology, production and management processes and convert them to be more digital __ such as automating battery production, reducing defects and minimizing workers on production lines.
It will collaborate with Germany’s Siemens to build LG Energy Solution’s own smart factory.
The office is distinct from the organizations under the chief technology officer and chief production officer.
Other LG Group affiliate such as LG Electronics, LG Uplus and LG Household & Healthcare had already formed CDO organizations this year.
Meanwhile, LG Energy Solution is also remodeling its CEO office and employee lounge on the 62nd floor and 63rd floor, respectively, of the Parc1 Tower, its headquarters, at Yeouido, Seoul.
The remodeling is done to emphasize communication stressed by CEO and vice chairman Kwon Young-soo, sources said.
The CEO office will be redesigned so that it is more accessible to employees who can communicate with Kwon more easily, sources said.
To achieve this, the CEO office and employee lounge will be connected directly, they added.
Kwon, as soon as he was named CEO on November, went to LG Energy Solution’s factory at Ochang to stress the importance of inspection equipment to react to quality issues, the sources also said.
He will work to increase the efficiency of decision-making and to advance battery production methods, they added.
