US glass firm Corning said on Tuesday that it has launched a new glass composition for applications in augmented and mixed reality wearable devices.
2.0 high-index glass enables a wider field of view and enhanced optical clarity, the company said.
The field of view for one piece of glass is 30 degrees, while for three prices this can be expanded to 55 degrees.
It also has the “best-in-class” light transmission for blue wavelength in AR and MR devices, it claimed.
This can be achieved with fewer prices of glass that allows for lighter and more affordable headset designs, Corning said.
2.0 glass is available in wafer diameters of 150 mm, 200 mm, and 300 mm and a range of thicknesses, it said.
It will be offered alongside the company’s existing 1.8 and 1.9 index glasses offered for wearable devices.
