SK Hynix hit record revenue and a high profit margin rate in the second quarter from the high demand for memory chips.
The company said on Wednesday that it recorded 13.8 trillion won in revenue and 4.19 trillion won in operating profit during the quarter, an increase of 33.8% and 55.6% from a year ago.
It is the first time its quarterly revenue exceeded 13 trillion won and it marked an operating profit rate of 30%.
SK Hynix said while DRAM prices dropped those of NAND increased while its overall sales also rose compared to the previous quarter.
A favorable exchange rate and earnings of subsidiary Solidigm being included also helped its earnings, the South Korean chipmaker said.
The yield rate of its 10-nanometer (nm) DRAM and 176-layer NAND also increased, helping profitability, the company noted.
However, SK Hynix warmed that demand for memory chips is expected slow down during the second half of the year as customers focus on using their inventory.
