Production equipment maker DSK has begun supplying logistics equipment to South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution, TheElec has learned.
It was supplying them through LG Electronics’ Production engineering Research Institute (PRI), not to LG Energy Solution directly, sources said.
DSK had in the past mainly supplied lamination equipment to the battery maker.
But it failed to supply them to LG Energy Solution’s joint venture with General Motors, Ultium Cells.
It later won a deal to supply equipment to LG Energy Solution’s factories in Poland.
This was thanks to the battery maker adopting more lamination processes in its battery production.
The latest equipment DSK supplied is for moving the electrode to the stacking process.
The kit is similar to over head transport used to move wafers in semiconductor production.
Instead of wafers, the transport moves magazines that carry the electrode.
