WCP said on Monday that it will be supplying lithium-ion battery separators to Samsung SDI.
Its Japan-based parent company W-Scope will supply 4 billion meter-square of the separators __ enough to be used in batteries for 5.3 million units of electric vehicles __ for five years up to 2027.
The separators will be supplied to Samsung SDI’s factories in South Korea and the US and used in 2170 and 46-diameter cylinder batteries.
WCP is expected to build a factory in the US to benefit from Inflation Reduction Act that provides subsidies to local factories.
Meanwhile, Samsung SDI recently announced that it plans to build a second joint factory with Stellantis.
The first factory is being built in Indiana with an expected annual capacity of 33GWh; the second factory will have an annual capacity of 34GWh.
