South Korea’s export of computer chips increased four months in a row as of February.
For February, semiconductor exports surged 62.9% from a year earlier to US$9.96 billion, data from the Ministry of Science and ICT, South Korea’s tech ministry, showed.
Memory chips accounted for US$6.08 billion, a jump of 108.1% from last year, while logic chips accrued US$3.42 billion, an increase of 27.2% over the same period.
Fixed prices of DRAM and NADN flash have increased year-on-year and there was high demand for high bandwidth memory from expanded spending on AI during the month.
However, according to analyst firm TrendForce, real demand for DRAM and NAND flash was lower than expected, which means the market is being affected more by the suppliers than customers.
Major memory makers Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron lowered their production output last year due to the market downturn and are yet to fully normalize production.
