South Korea’s Raontech said on Monday that its liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) display will be used on Avegant’s upcoming smart glass launching this year.
Avegant is an augmented reality optics firm and is developing an AI smart glass with Qualcomm and Applied Materials.
Raontec has shown off its low-power LCoS module in January this year.
LCoS has high brightness and is being used more and more in AR devices, though it is considered behind in contrast ratio to OLED and MicroLED, two other technologies are being adopted in AR and virtual reality devices.
Raontec said Avegant’s new technology can improve LcoS’ contrast ratio by ten times and reduce power consumption by 90%.
