SNU Precision has won an order from Chinese microdisplay maker BCDTEK to supply its OLED on silicon (OLEDoS) deposition equipment, TheElec has learned.
The equipment are used to deposit OLED on silicon wafers. Display made this way, which are usually in the 1-inch range in size, are used in realty devices.
BCDTEK was founded in 2020 and has Chinese chip firm AMEC as a strategic investor, which owns 5% of the company.
The microdisplay maker announced in June 2022 that it will spend 6.5 billion yuan in Huainan City, Anhui Province to build a microdisplay factory in two phases.
SNU Precision won the order for the construction of the first phase, which has 1.5 billion yuan ear marked for it.
SNU Precision supplied its equipment domestically as well as to the US prior to its deal with BCDTEK.
The company is expected to win more orders when BCDTEK commences the second phase of the construction of its factory.
Demand for OLEDoS has increased since Apple launched its Vision Pro realty device. Samsung Display recently signed a deal with Microsoft to supply its OLEDoS for the latter’s mixed realty device.
