Pair to recycle scrap metal
EcoPro BM said on Thursday that it plans to collaborate with Hyundai Motor Group and Hyundai Steel to develop lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cathode at a dramatically reduced cost.
Hyundai Steel will recycle scrap metal to make iron powder which will be converted to LFP cathode by EcoPro BM. Hyundai Motor Group will evaluate the cathode.
The partnership is a national project backed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, which will provide 13.4 billion won in funding out of the 20.7 billion won allotted to the project.
Oxide steel will be used over sulfide steel and pure steel, which is considered more environmentally friendly, EcoPro BM said.
