Samyoung S&C said on Thursday that it has supplied its humidity sensor to Starplus Energy, the battery making joint venture between Samsung SDI and Stellantis.
The deal is worth approximately 1 billion won and Samyoung S&C is providing chilled mirror sensors, which are dew point analyzers that can work at ultra-low temperatures. The sensors freezes the air and measure humidity by checking the temperature of dew formation.
Samsung SDI begun using chilled-mirror sensors at its Gumi plant in South Korea this year. Since then, it has applied the sensors at its plant in Cheonan and Ulsan as well.
The South Korean battery maker plans to expand its application to its plants in the US and Hungary going forward.
Meanwhile, Starplus Energy plans to start the operation of its first factory within the year, earlier than its initial plan of starting in the first quarter of 2025.
The factory will have an annual capacity of 33GWh; when the planned second factory goes live as well, the joint venture will supply 67GWh of batteries per year to Stellantis for electric vehicles.
