Chinese memory controller manufacturer Jiangsu Huacun developed China’s first eMMC controller in just one year since its establishment in Sep last year. Announcement was made during Independent Memory R&D Technology Exchange Summit 2018 held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on 21 Nov.
Reported by IM2Maker.com, Jiangsu Huacun’s controller design operations team representative Wei Zhifan delivered on the subject of how eMMC controller can be developed and built in China, with its own technology and resources.
HC5001, a 40nm flash memory controller process from Jiangsu Huacun supporting the development of eMMC 5.1, 3D TLC NAND Flash, FTL, ONFI3.2 / Toggle 2.0, LDPC, etc. Embedded MultiMediaCard (eMMC) is a type of NAND flash memory package used as storage device for smartphones, laptops, and automotive electronics.
According to Qichacha, a pioneer in delivering business data for corporates in China said, the controlling shareholder of Jiangsu Huacun presumably the government of Nantong, a coastal city near Wuxi, Suzhou and Shanghai.
Jiangsu Huacun has a complex capital structure spanning across the aforementioned 4 places involving not limited to 32 individuals and organisations, identified by Qichacha. Song Yuncen, the Vice President of Jiangsu Huacun holding 35.8% of real stake said, “Although the majority of the shareholders are different in names, but the main investment group is owned by Nantong city.”
The summit was attended the Vice President of the Jiangsu Province Science & Technology Department, and officials from Nantong city. These include: Duan Xiting, Senior Vice President of Silicon Motion (SMI), Liu Anxuan, President of King Yuan Electronics Company (KYEC), the employees of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) and several other private enterprises in the market.
SMI is a Taiwan-based memory controller, also one of the major players in the industry along with Samsung Electronics, Marvell and Phison. According to an annual report in 2017, major foundries like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) are developing products through 28nm – 55nm process. $523 mil sales was recorded last year, out of which, 34% were transactions with South Korean businesses said to be the highest in the region.
Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test Market (OSAT) manufacturer from Taiwan is operating a test plant in Suzhou, China. “Jiangsu Huacun has made an important contribution in China’s high-end eMMC memory controller field,” said Liu Anxuan, the President of KYEC at the summit.
