Hongju Baik, Executive Vice President of Test & System Package (TSP)

Samsung Electronics is reinforcing its semiconductor package business. The Test Package (TP) Center organization has been promoted to the General Test and System Package (TSP) business. It also plans to establish a management support department in the device solution (DS) division, which will be in charge of the semiconductor business, and to further strengthen the system under the Vice Chairman, Kim, Gi Nam.

In the case of Samsung Display, the business division, which was divided into an organic light emitting diode (OLED) and liquid crystal display (LCD), was changed to the system with small and large business units.

Samsung Electronics has appointed Vice President of the Memory Manufacturing Technology Center (Vice President) of Baik, Hongju as TSP business general manager on December 12. The chairman of the TP center will be the director of Lee, Kyu-yeol of Memory Manufacturing Technology Center. The industry has accepted that it is their intention to put more emphasis on the semiconductor package field by creating the 'general business management' position on the TP center. Due to the limitations of microfabrication, the semiconductor industry is expanding its investment in packaging.

As Vice President Baik moved to oversee TSP business, there were other changes in positions. As the head of the Memory Manufacturing Technology Center, which Vice President Baik had been in charge of, Siyoung Choi, the head of Foundry Manufacturing Technology Center (Vice President), was appointed. Sangpil Shim who was the executive director of Samsung Semiconductor Austin branch became the head of the foundry manufacturing technology center. The Austin branch executive director is changed to Gilhyun Choi, the managing director of the Foundry Manufacturing Technology Center.

The DS Division also has a new management support room. Support, planning, and communication teams are gathered under the Management Support Office. As the head of the DS management team, VP Bongyong Kangwho, was the team leader of the support team, has been appointed. VP Kang, Chang-jin, who was in charge of the planning team, was reported to have retired from Samsung Electronics and move to CEO of Semes, a subsidiary of equipment. The official announcement has not been made yet.

An industry observer said, "This year, not only Samsung Electronics but also the number of senior positions in the semiconductor business sector was not wide," and added, “the characteristic would be that they’ve put more weight on the packaging.”Samsung Display changed its business division from OLED and LCD to small-medium-large business units. Hyo-hak Nam has been appointed as VP of large-scale business, and Sung-cheol Kim as VP of small and medium business. Sung-cheol Kim is a former senior vice president of OLED business. Hyo Hak Nam used to be VP of OLED manufacturing. This time, he will concentrate on the task of phase-out of the LCD business and the 'successful commercialization' of large-size OLEDs based on Quantum Dot (QD) color filters.

Meanwhile, among the entire organization of Samsung Electronics, the business division head was replaced only in the network division of the IT mobile (IM) division. Youngki Kim retired and Kyunghoon Jeon VP, a former network development team leader, has been appointed.
