For HDMI 2.1 IP of Alpha Solutions
Alpha Holdings signed an 8-nanometer (nm) multiproject wafer design service contract with subsidiary Alpha Solutions.
The contract is to certify HDMI2.1 and DP PHY IP in development by Alpha Solutions for 8nm.
Alpha Solutions will be able to gain a foothold in 8nm semiconductor IP market through the certification, the pair said.
Tape out is expected within the month.
Alpha Solutions provides HDMI and LVDS IP for companies in Japan and China.
It plans to expand in the 10nm market as well.
Demand for HDMI 2.1 IP is expected to increase from the roll out of 8K resolution as HDMI 2 is limited to 4K resolution.
HDMI 2.1 will likely be supported by multiple system-on-a-chip launching in 2021.
HDMI2.1 standard was set this year.
