Abov Semiconductor will supply specific absorption rate (SAR) sensors to Samsung Electronics for the Galaxy S21 smartphone series and Galaxy Buds Pro earphones, TheElec confirmed.
SAR sensor, or proximity sensor, is used to reduce electromagnetic waves of electronic devices when the human bodies are around.
Abov supplied SAR sensors to Samsung since 2018 for the Galaxy smartphone series.
This has increased the company’s sales. SAR sensor accounted for 17% of Abov’s sales in 2018 but this has increased to 30% in 2019. For 2020, this figure is expected to rise to 35%.
Abov’s sensor sales reached 30.9 billion won in total in 2020 up to the third quarter, a rise of 71% from the same time period a year ago.
The company won Wingtech, contract smartphone maker for Huawei and Samsung, backed in the third quarter of 2019.
Abov also supplied SAR sensors to Samsung for Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Live last year.
