AI chip firm Graphcore will start collaborating with South Korean IT service firm NHN in AI cloud service starting this month.
Under their partnership, Graphcore will not only be supplying its intelligence processing unit (IPU), but the pair will be co-developing OpenStack technology, Graphcore country manager of Korea Minwoo Kang said.
The pair will also collaborate in marketing for the global market, Kang said.
For its partnership with NHN, Graphcore has beefed up its engineering staff in South Korea while engineers at its UK headquarters have also been assigned to the project, the country manager said. Graphcore is considering the project with NHN to be meaningful, he said.
The pair will aim to finish development of the OpenStack by the end of 2021, Kang said. The next step is to apply the technology to container and virtualization engine by the first half of 2022, he added.
Graphcore has also supplied its IPU to local carrier KT for its hyperscale AI service.
The company will collaborate with its local partner Megazone, a cloud service provider, to secure customers for its IPU and expand its presence in South Korea, Kang said.
