Lotte Chemical will build a pilot line to manufacture hydrogen tanks at its plant in Incheon, South Korea, the company said on Tuesday.
The line will be built on 1,488 meter-square of land and be completed during the first half of next year.
The company will build tanks that can withstand 700 bar of pressure, it said.
Lotte Chemical said it was building a line to securing manufacturing technology for the tanks. It was not in talks with automobile companies to supply them as of yet, it added.
The firm plans to manufacture 100,000 units in 2025 and 500,000 units in 2030, it also said.
Lotte Chemical has been developing the tanks since 2017 under a national project.
It is preparing to secure the relevant standards in Europe and other developed countries.
