Ultium Cells, the joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors, is expected to manufacture its first batch of batteries soon.
Its first factory at Lordstown, Ohio, will activate its first two production lines soon, people familiar with the matter said.
The company will place orders for the third and fourth production liens at the factory soon as well.
These are the equipment makers that have supplied their kits for the production lines at Ultium Cell’s first factory.
For the electrode process, CIS and Hirano Tecseed are providing the coaters, roll pressers and slitters. Nsys, Honeywell and V-One Tech are providing the inspection equipment. Daebo Magnetic is supplying the electromagnetic filters. Kangwon NTS is supplying the heat exchanger and Netzsch the grinder/disperser.
For the assembly process, DE&T is providing the laser notching equipment. Shinjin Mtec is supplying lamination and stacking equipment. Poongsan and SRD are providing the tab welding and packaging equipment. ETS is supplying the electrolyte injector.
For the formation process, YTS is providing the degassing machine while A-Pro is providing the charger/discharger. SHL is providing the inspection kits for current pressures. LG CNS, Top Engineering, Avaco and HumanTech will be providing logistics and packaging equipment.
Siemens is providing the smart factory solution, which includes digital twin and standards for factory operations.
Ultium Cells is planning to construct a total of four factories in the US.
