SK Powertech has begun mass production of silicon carbide (SiC) wafers at its new factory in Busan, parent company SK Corporation said on Tuesday.
The factory began trial production in March and has turned to mass production with the addition of ion injectors, SK Corporation said.
The company is aiming to secure an annual production capacity of 29,000 6-inch wafers per year by the fourth quarter of this year, triple that of the factory’s prior capacity when it was based in Pohang before the move.
SK Powertech is aiming for an annual revenue of 500 billion won by 2026 through securing product competence, entering the electric vehicle market and expanding its foundry service.
Half of the SiC wafers produced at Busan will head toward the US, Japan, China and Taiwan.
