Display equipment maker Sunic System expects to win orders from BOE for Gen 8 OLED deposition equipment this year, its CEO said on Monday.
Sunic System CEO Park Jae-gyu said during the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting that it expects a positive result in its competition to supply deposition equipment.
Park was referring to the company’s competition with Japanese counterpart Canon Tokki to win orders for deposition equipment from BOE for their new Gen 8 OLED production line, B16.
The CEO is planning to leave for China for its customer’s groundbreaking ceremony for the B16 line. Executives of Canon Tokki are also expected to take part, as reported by TheElec earlier.
BOE announced the construction of the line in November last year. The Gen 8.6 OLED line is planned to have a monthly capacity of 32,000 substrates per month, which means it needs four units of deposition equipment.
B16 will be constructed in two phases and the first phase will require two units, which the company will place orders for within the year.
As deposition equipment takes the longest to make among equipment, when orders for them are placed is an important indicator for other equipment vendors to expect orders.
Meanwhile, Sunic System is also expecting orders for deposition equipment for OLED on silicon, or OLEDoS, this year as well.
Park said the company expects orders for two to three units of equipment for white-OLED deposition.
