NXP showcases Wi-Fi 6, UWB and TSN tech at CES2021

Company introduces BlueBox 3.0 for self-driving cars

NXP on Tuesday introduced a slew of technologies at CES 2021.

These include its technologies in Wi-Fi6, radar, ultra wide band (UWB), time-sensitive networking (TSN) and computer numeric control (CNC) machines.

NXP has Wi-Fi6 and Wi-Fi 6E chipsets that can make life more convenience at homes, which are daily requiring more data processing, CTO Lars Reger says.

W-Fi 6E as a delay time of 2ms and can process data in multi-gigabits. By 2025, over 90% of consumer and enterprise applications will be using Wi-Fi 6, the CTO said.

For the automotive industry, NXP will offer its imaging radar processeor that uses its 77GHz radar transceiver technologies for customers to build scalable system solutions that address ultra-short range, short-range, midrange and long-range radar. 

Data collected from the radar sensor can be used to make accurate maps.

The data collected will be processed by NXP’s automotive high performance compute (AHPC) development platform BlueBox 3.0.

BlueBox 3.0 supports development of level 2 self-driving cars and connected cars. 

It incorporate Layerscape LX2160A embedded compute processor together with the ASIL D ready S32G274A vehicle network processor for automotive service-oriented gateway, domain controller, safety co-processor, and expansion options to include additional perception and acceleration solutions, NXP said.

TSN and CNC is offered for factory automation. TSN is based on IEEE 802.1 standard and will allow data to to be transferred stably within time. CNC machines will assist in prioritizing problems during accidents to help quickly resolve the issue.

NXP’s UWB technology can detect in the cm range at over 500MHz specturm. The company’s solution combines embedded SIM, NFC and secure element. This solution was provided to Samsung for the latter’s Galaxy Note20 Ultra last year.

NXP has touted that UWB technology find many uses cases in automobiles. It can be used as a digital key to open doors, trunks and for payments. NXP says its solution provides end-to-end security from mobile the car.
