LG Energy Solution has topped the ranking in electric vehicle (EV) battery market, excluding China.
SNE Research said total battery usage in battery excluding China was 81.2GWh in 2020.
LG Energy Solution supplied 26.8GWh to top the ranking. It had a market share of 33.1%, up 9.4% from 2019.
Panasonic ranked second with 25.6GWh with a market share of 31.6%. Its market share dropped 17% from 2019.
Samsung SDI and SK Innovation had market shares of 10.1% and 9.7%, respectively.
SK Innovation saw its market share surge 282.5% compared to 2019, narrowing its gap with Samsung SDI to 0.4%.
CATL ranked fifth with 5.3GWh and a market share of 6.5%. This was still a surge of 2457.1% compared to 0.2GWh it recorded in 2019.
CATL’s growth was thanks to PSA Group’s strong sales of pure EV models such as Peugeot e-208, e-2008 and Opel Corsa, SNE Research said. The Chinese battery giant was expanding quickly outside of China, the firm noted.
CATL was ranked first in SNE Research’s ranking for the global market, which includes China, with a market share of 24% in 2020. LG Energy Solution ranked second with 23.5%, followed by Panasonic which had 18.5%.
Samsung SDI and SK Innovation had shares of 5.8% and 5.4% each, ranking fifth and sixth, respectively.
