LG Display has named executive vice president Shin Sang-moon as its first chief safety and environment officer (CSEO) on Monday.
The company early this month announced the formation of the new CSEO post, following a fatal gas leak on January at its plant that killed one employee of a subcontractor.
LG Display said Shin worked 36 years in total at LG Electronics and LG Display, working at its production facilities. His expertise makes him the most suited to improve the safety standards of the company, LG Display said.
The CSEO will have the same authority as the CEO when it comes to safety issues, the company said.
He will be the control tower of safety policies at LG Display’s local and global facilities. He will able to order a halt in production if danger is detected. The CSEO will also oversee recruitment of experts in safety and environment.
LG Display’s safety unit will be expanded from two division and 14 teams to seven divisions and 25 teams. It will also form a global safety and environment center to recruit experts.
